Digital footprints of #MeToo

When #MeToo exploded onto social media in October 2017, it dramatically ruptured public consciousness revealing the widespread nature of sexual harassment and violence around world. Yet, despite global attention afforded to #MeToo, was preceded by numerous initiatives, which we argue created digital footprints instrumental rendering intelligible. As such, aim this article is two-fold. Firstly, offers first attempt map a diverse range initiatives have mobilized fight violence, doing so, makes visible genealogy feminist activism responding sexualised violence. Secondly, building on these looking towards future activism, demonstrates power potential that expose structural conditions enabling occur through collective sharing experiences across cybernetworks via processes “ethical witnessing.” We conclude advocating for greater recognition those voices scholars activists alike continue fail witness call efforts archive mobilisation order capture complexity diversity its past, present future.
